Initiatives

Driving Impact Across Innovation, Industry & Inclusion

At Scotia Blue Technology, our initiatives represent the strategic programs and partnerships we champion to move the Canadian ocean economy forward β€” sustainably, collaboratively, and at scale.

While our services respond to the needs of individual clients, our initiatives focus on system-level outcomes: building partnerships across borders, modernizing key sectors, and ensuring equitable access to funding and opportunity. These are the pillars that support our broader mission of connecting global innovation with Canadian impact.

Explore the three core initiatives currently guiding our work:

🌐 Connecting Innovators

We scout world-class aquaculture and ocean tech solutions from around the globe and facilitate partnerships with Canadian companies, Indigenous communities, and applied research leaders. This initiative focuses on transforming opportunity into implementation β€” through pilots, procurement, and cross-border collaboration.

βš“ Advancing Key Sectors

We target high-potential sectors β€” such as sustainable aquaculture, clean marine energy, ocean monitoring, and Indigenous enterprise β€” and work to accelerate their growth. From ecosystem mapping to partnership development and public advocacy, this initiative aligns innovation with real economic and environmental outcomes.

πŸ’‘ Enabling Innovation Funding

Even the best ideas need fuel. This initiative ensures that deserving projects gain access to the funding ecosystems β€” government grants, innovation loans, Indigenous growth funds β€” that make implementation possible. We align stakeholders, co-develop fundable strategies, and demystify the process for innovators across the spectrum.

Selected work

Fathom, a platform for the group-benefits industry, built and deployed

Scotia Blue Technology designed and built Fathom, a multi-tenant platform for the group insurance industry. Fathom automates the back-office work benefits brokers and firms otherwise do by hand.

Document analysis

Reads carrier renewal reports, census files, and plan booklets and pulls out the underwriting detail (loss ratios, pooling, rate tables, cost drivers) with no manual data entry.

Renewal forecasting

Projects age-band demographic drift and flags unused coverage, so an employer sees the shape of a renewal before the carrier letter arrives.

Enrollment mapping

Translates employee data into any insurer enrollment format, removing the per-carrier paperwork that ties a broker to one provider.

Carrier monitoring

Ingests insurer bulletins, matches each change to the affected clients, and drafts the client communication.

Built on Next.js and PostgreSQL with per-tenant data isolation, encrypted credentials, an append-only audit log, and metered model usage.

First client: East Coast Employee Benefits, a Halifax-based group benefits brokerage, is the platform first deployment.
